I went to the Hyde Park Calling concert on Saturday. Peter Gabriel was the headline act – but the crowd was there for Crowded House.
The newly reformed (again…?) Crowded House produced a quality set; it was if they’d never broken up at all. ‘Pineapple Head’, ‘Fall At Your Feet’ and ‘Better Be At Home Soon’ all remained timeless.
Ironically their biggest hit ‘Weather With You’ drew out the rain clouds and soaked Hyde Park! Crowded House completely won over the crowd – there was Neil with his Kiwi accent leading the crowd of English fans! We sang really loud to try to drown out all the English accents!
Even though there was a massive downpour half way through Crowded House it was a fantastic day! Everyone seemed to have adapted to this random London summer and where prepared with brollies, poncho’s and even gumboots! Other bands were played were local band Ghost, and flamboyant and animated UK band The Feeling – performing their hit ‘Never Be Lonely’ which was popular with the crowd.

(Above) You know your at a English summer concert when it pours with rain halfway though and the crowd all simply pull out their black brollies and keep dancing!
Peter Gabriel, well, I actually like some of his music but live… hmmm, he’s not such a great live performer – a bit too serious. I would have loved to go the the second day and seen Aerosmith (joined by Run DMC), Chris Cornell, and the abundance of the other local acts – but my ticket was only for Saturday – I guess there’s always next year!
Check out the videos of the concert that Kate, the big cyber rebel, posted on You Tube.
