Quepos!

May 22nd, 2007 · No Comments · Travel

We are now in Quepos (say´K poss´) on the Pacific Coast side of Costa Rica. We are staying at ‘The Wide Mouth Frog’, a backpackers owned by a Kiwi and a British couple, its a wicked hostel with a huge communical eating/cooking area and all the room positioned around a swimming pool!

Its so hot here, but being surrounded by rainforests there is usually a massive downpour around late afternoon, which is actually good as it cools everything down! But I guess I would recommend that others come about a month earlier to try and avoid the rainy season altogether, but only if you think you could stand the heat!

Quepos is a smallish, sea side town with everything built and based around the harbour that runs along the coast. We are staying here in Quepos, as the accomadation in Manual Antioio mainly consists of American resorts and luxuary boutique hotels all pearched in the rainforest overlooking the isolated beaches, with tracks down to the beaches, but these are unfortunatley also very expensive and slightly out of our budget! ; ) However, from Quespos its easy to travel into to Manual Antionio (7km away, or a 25c bus ride!) and

The beaches in Manual Antionio are amazing, the most popular Playa Manuel Antonio is awesome! But Player Espandilla Sur is not far away and more isolated. The beaches are white sand, with rainforests surrounding them and the water is almost warmer than the air! Its not unsual to be swimming or sunbathing and see igunas or geckos scoot around and about over the sand!

We did a tour through The Manual Antionio Park. The forest is home to sloths, iguanas (some of which were huge), squirrel monkeys (that make crazy noises) and millions of colorful (red, white, black, etc) little, and not so little crabs!! We followed a trail that wound around the Punta Catedral and had amazing views! We have some great photos of the animals, I´ll post them later!

Adios! : )
